As Legal Director at CCLP, and in collaboration with partner organizations, Katie uses a variety of tools, including litigation, administrative advocacy, and community education, to advocate for the equitable enforcement of legislation, advance economic justice, and promote racial equity in Colorado.
Prior to joining CCLP, Katie was a clinical teaching fellow at the Georgetown University Law Center and then the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. In those roles, she taught and supervised students representing indigent clients in a variety of civil litigation matters. She also trained students acting as consultants for nonprofit organizations seeking to delve deeper into high-priority problems. Katie has also worked at the National Women’s Law Center as a Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellow, litigated complex employment discrimination disputes at a small civil rights firm, and served as a community-based legal services attorney at a holistic nonprofit in Washington, D.C.
Katie received a BS in the Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University. She served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member, and then supervisor, helping to lead an initiative to develop leadership capacity among low-income Washington, D.C. public school communities. Katie attended law school at Georgetown University Law Center, where she focused her internship, clinic, and practicum experiences on advocating for the needs of homeless residents and those at risk of becoming homeless. She went on to receive her LL.M. with distinction in Advocacy at Georgetown as well.
